Each suburb page has local details: when the suburb was built up, its heritage overlays, its flood history and, where there’s a source, its ground. Those details shape what kind of houses you’ll find there and which rules apply.
Most of the places we cover are in the City of Greater Geelong. Torquay is in Surf Coast Shire, whose 2006 neighbourhood character study found most houses in central Torquay and Jan Juc are clad in timber weatherboards, fibro cement sheet or other lightweight materials (Surf Coast Shire). Planning questions there, such as heritage, go to the Shire.
