Thomson’s Housing Commission homes were all built by 1953. A restumping inspection on a house of that era generally covers the stumps, the bearers and joists above them, the floor levels in each room and whether the subfloor vents are clear. It tells you whether the house has moved, and by how much.
If floodwater or heavy rain has ever reached under your floor, say so. Tell us too if the house has been extended, since an addition may sit on different stumps. Before you call, note any doors that stick, cracks in the plaster and whether the house has been restumped before. Restumping also needs a building permit; the builder or a building surveyor usually arranges it. The FAQ answers common questions. If you’re happy to go ahead, a registered restumper who works around Thomson will hear from us.
